Mango Django - Licorice & Sloe

It's a cold November day here, yet I noticed a New England phenomenon while we were at the grocery store today. I didn't see anyone between the ages of 10 and 60 wearing a winter coat. Everyone (including my husband and I) was wearing a sweatshirts or light jacket and looking very cold. Why do we do that? I always regret it but somehow continue to do it. It's like I'm calling the snow if I give in and wear a warm coat.

Today's tea - It's a scented green tea from Licorice & Sloe in Newburyport, MA called Mango Django. I know I've mentioned this shop before. It is one of the coziest tea houses I've ever been to. The photos here show their tea menu - displayed on a blackboard that runs the length of the room. They have a front room with small cafe tables and then a back room with comfy chairs. I always wish it was closer to our house. I was just thinking that we're due for another visit very soon!

Mango Django is a really fruity scented green tea. The aroma is quite citrusy and the flavor is sweet. It may be a little too "perfumed" for some tastes, but I think they've found a nice balance. The liquor is a pale amber. The tea is decorated with dried fruit and flowers. I know I've mentioned before that John Harney (of Harney & Sons) said that dried fruit adds no flavor to the tea so it's inclusion is generally decorative. I think it does play an important role, though, in preparing you to expect a particular flavor. The funny thing is that I was looking around online to see if anyone offers a Mango Django for which they include ingredients. I found one that says it uses orange zest and dried carrots!

Tea: Mango Django
Source: Licorice & Sloe
Type: Scented green tea
Brewing details: 175 degrees for 3 minutes.
Comment: Licorice & Sloe does not sell their teas online. They are only available through their shop.

Katrina,

Thank you for the mention of Licorice & Sloe Company in your Blog... we do love to hear that folks are enjoying our teas.

While it's true we don't have an e-commerce site, we do ship teas to several customers who have found us and enjoy our teas, but live too far away to visit more regularly.

Just shoot us an email and we'll ship you some teas. Here's my email address:

bil@licoriceandsloe.com

The ingredients in our Mango Django are:

green tea leaves, carrot pieces, orange peel, cat's foot and a flavoring addative of orange, mango and passion fruit.

At Licorice & Sloe Company we don't scent our teas, we import our teas pre-scented. The majority of our scented teas come from a German tea blender. The importance of choosing a German company for us is that they maintain the strictest guidelines and highest quality ingredients.

Thanks again for mentioning us in your blog.
