Hooray! I can taste and smell again. Just in time. I was planning on finishing up this chai series this week and I'm running out of days!
So today I have my last sample from Yogic Chai - a Mint Masala Chai. Then I'll end the week with a chai tea bag comparison. We'll have contenders from Good Earth, Lindsay's Teas, Mighty Leaf, Numi, Stash, and Yogi Tea.I know that I do have other chai samples en route but I'll put these into the general rotation in the months to come. It's time to start mixing things up again!
Mint Masala Chai from Yogic Chai is a combination of Assam black tea, green cardamom, cinnamon, clove, ginger, and peppermint (all organic). The dry blend was, as with their other chais, an attractive mix of tea (in this case a rolled leaf Assam) and large spice pieces. The mint leaves were large and generous in amount. It is a tea in which you would be able to identify all of the ingredients simply from a visual scan.
The scent was really wonderful - invigorating and crisp. Beautiful.
This chai is definitely all about the mint. The mint is the dominant flavor and scent throughout. There were times that I did question if I really liked it - I'd start to think about mint chocolate chip ice cream because of the milk and mint combination. I do love mint chocolate chip ice cream...but this is tea. The tea and other chai spices did take a back seat here. On the whole, though, I think it was a successful blend. Just make sure you're into mint!
